Experimental Dairy Plant (EDP)

The College of Dairy and Food Science Technology has an Experimental Dairy Plant (EDP) with a 5,000-litre milk handling capacity, which operates 365 days a year. It serves as a platform for experimental trials conducted by postgraduate students and scientists, as well as a means for scaling up laboratory concepts of technology to pilot scale. The Experimental Dairy Plant consists of five sections, namely, a liquid milk processing and packaging section, a dairy products manufacturing and packaging section, and an engineering/service section. Apart from pasteurized milk, the EDP produces various value-added dairy products, such as Paneer, Dahi, Lassi, Milk Cake, Peda, Mozzarella Cheese, Ice cream, Whey drink, and Ghee, providing students with valuable hands-on training.

Value addition of Fish and Fish Products

The College of Fisheries, which is a part of the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, has played a crucial role in the growth of the fisheries sector in Punjab. The college has a well-established instructional-cum-research farm and fish processing facility, which has enabled the development of various need-based technologies related to fish production, processing, and value addition. The fish processing sector offers ample opportunities for entrepreneurship in the state, and the College of Fisheries, with its full fledged facilities, will provide hand-holding support to the incubates. Value addition of Livestock and Poultry.

Value addition of Livestock and Poultry

The Department of Livestock Products Technology (LPT) is located at the College of Veterinary Science in Ludhiana is a leading department that provides modern facilities for the processing, value addition, packaging, and quality control of livestock products such as meat, eggs, and their processed forms. The Department has recently expanded its services to support budding entrepreneurs by offering them technology transfer facilities and practical hands-on training for farmers and research workers. Additionally, it has successfully transferred processing technologies of various livestock products to various industries.

    Animal Feed Facility

Department of Animal Nutrition, College of Veterinary Science , Ludhiana carried out the research activities includes survey of existing feeding practices followed under field/farm conditions, assessment of nutritional status of lactating animals, various methods employed in improving the nutritive value of poor quality crop residues applicable under field conditions, assessing the nutrient requirement of different categories of poultry and ruminants under different seasons. The extension related activities to advocate the farmers, feed manufactures and NGOs with regards to formulation of balanced and economical rations for different categories of livestock and poultry in order to improve productive and reproductive performance of animals.

    Diagnostic and Disease Control Labs

The College of Animal Biotechnology is dedicated to conduct translational research in various fields of biotechnology that have direct or indirect implications for animals, particularly livestock. The college has a mandate to undertake teaching, research, and training or extension programs in various aspects of animal biotechnology, genomics, bioinformatics, microbial and environmental biotechnology. The research activities aim to identify and characterize genes responsible for growth, production, reproduction, stress, and diseases. In addition to this, the college also works towards harnessing omics and computational biotechnology to improve the genetics of farm animals and develop new generation vaccines.

    DIET Centre

The Dairy Products Innovation and Entrepreneurial Training (DIET) Centre, Ludhiana has been established at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana in collaboration with Verka, Milkfed, Punjab. This dairy product training centre has been started under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) scheme, with a funding of Rs. 12.34 Cr. The aim of this project is to provide practical hands-on training to students and encourage innovation of new dairy products. With the help of DIET, a daily supply of 25000 liters of fermented milk products such as curd (5000 liters) and lassi (20000 liters) is being made available in the market.
